I am a native-Albertan transplanted to the city of Ottawa. By day, I’m a hydrologist. By night, I make maps, bike around the city, or go skiing or sailing. While on a trip to California in 2015, I was inspired to try my hand at wooden map-making after seeing a bathymetry map (a map which shows water depth) of the San Francisco Bay Area. I began by making wooden bathymetry maps of the Ottawa River, before experimenting with making topographical maps of Ottawa’s downtown core. Many maps and mistakes later, the maps started to look more wall-worthy. A few years ago, I decided to make my art project available to the public eye – and here we are.
